This 3-credit summer course introduces students to the basic principles of engines, machines, and mechanical systems that power today's technologies. Through hand-on projects like build a combustion engine and designing systems for race track tournament; students learn how energy is transferred and controlled using tools, gears, and motors. The course explores how mechanical energy can change into other forms and how machines are essential in transportation, robotics, and automation. Designed to spark curiosity about future careers in engineering and robotics, this course builds foundational skills for anyone interested in the growing work of automation and machine-based technology. 

Summer School Diploma Exams

The writing of Diploma Exams for August 2024 will be determined based on the policies future announcements from Alberta Education.  

Diploma Exams will be written between August 5 - August 13, 2025.

All students are provided with up to double the official time noted above if they require it.

Re-write Fees:

Re-write fees for all Diploma Exams are $25 plus GST, paid directly to Alberta Education through MyPass, https://public.education.alberta.ca/PASI/myPass

*Important Notice to students who have accessed Special Accommodations: If you are a student that has utilized special accommodations for exam writing under Alberta Education guidelines, please be advised that we are unable to provide these same provisions in our Summer School program, with the exception of additional time for a diploma exam. Summer School compresses a semester's worth of course material and requires the same amount of time or more from you outside of the instructional hours.
