Courses

Students entering Grade 10, 11, and 12 are eligible to take up to 10 credits (only 1 core course)

Prerequisites

If you register for a summer school class but do not meet the prerequisites, you will be withdrawn from the class with no notice. The $30 program fee is non-refundable.

Course Changes/Transfers

• When a student wishes to change levels within a subject area (20-1 to 20-2), or to transfer courses (Math 20-1 to Bio 20), those changes are contingent on space.
• All transfers are initiated by the student and should be communicated directly to the Principal.
• Transfers need to be completed before 2:00pm on July 4th, 2025.

Attendance/Online Engagement

Non-attendance/engagement does not constitute a withdrawal. A final mark will not appear on transcripts of students who withdraw on or before July 11th.

Cancellations

Red Deer Catholic Online School reserves the right to cancel any class. All efforts will be made to accommodate the student. If RDCOS cancels a class, a full refund will be issued. Refunds take up to four weeks for processing through Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools Financial Services.

Course Load

A student can take a maximum of 10 credits in Summer School. One 5-credit core course only can be taken.

Accommodations

If you require special provisions regarding inclusive learning accommodations, please contact the Principal.  The only accomodations that can be implemented in Summer School are:

• Extra Time
• Text to Speech
• Speech to text

• Teachers will be available from 9:00 - 2:00 pm each day.
• Classes will start at 9am each day and will be structured based on the teacher's course requirements. The day will include live connection points with a teacher, as well as time for students to work on their own.
• To complete a summer school course, students will require internet access and access to a computer (laptop, Chromebook, or desktop) with a working microphone and camera (either built-in or external). Courses will be delivered on the Schoology platform. Tablets and cell phones are not recommended as they cannot support the programs students are required to use.
• Students may be required to engage in video conferencing with their teacher and classmates.
• Midterm and Final exams will all be completed online and students will require a camera and microphone.  The exception for this is Diploma exams which are written at St. Joseph High School.
• If you currently attend a high school, please speak with your school site about borrowing technology if needed.

The writing of Diploma Exams for August 2025 will take place at St. Joseph High School.

Diploma Exams will be written between August 5 - August 13, 2025.

All students are provided with up to double the official time noted above if they require it.

Re-write Fees:

Re-write fees for all Diploma Exams are $25 plus GST, paid directly to Alberta Education through MyPass, https://public.education.alberta.ca/PASI/myPass

*Important Notice to students who have accessed Special Accommodations: If you are a student that has utilized special accommodations for exam writing under Alberta Education guidelines, please be advised that we are unable to provide these same provisions in our Summer School program, with the exception of additional time for a diploma exam. Summer School compresses a semester's worth of course material and requires the same amount of time or more from you outside of the instructional hours.
